Lagoona Blue, a saltwater monster

Water Monsters are a broad range of monsters that live in water. There are two types of water monsters: freshwater monsters and saltwater monsters. Freshwater monsters live in lakes and rivers and saltwater monsters live in the ocean. Freshwater and saltwater monsters are usually prejudiced against each other.

Monster High[]

Generation 1[]

In Monster High, there are two major kinds of water monsters, freshwater monsters, and saltwater monsters. There is prejudice against each other, but not much is known on why they don't like each other, but saltwater monsters, according to Gil's parents, are uncivilized and mean-spirited. Other monster species, such as Merfolk, Sirens or some Nymphs are more specific types of water monsters.

Generation 2[]

Generation 3[]

Generation 1[]

Water monsters come in many different shapes and sizes. But most commonly water monsters have blue scaled skin and fish fins on their lower arms and legs. Fresh water monsters with some exceptions, but for the most part have to wear helmets with water in them so they can breath on land. As some fresh water monsters only have gills while other water monsters have gills and lungs. When Lagoona turns into a freshwater monster, her skin turns into a darker shade of blue.[Source]

Generation 2[]

In generation 2, most of the water monsters look almost exactly like the water monsters shown in generation 1.

Weaknesses[]

  • Skin Dryness: It is sometimes mentioned that water monsters’ skin dries out on land, so they often need to use moisturizer. This explains why Lagoona uses her rehydration chamber. This is also made especially apparent in the anime, where Lagoona is almost constantly applying moisturizer.

Generation 3[]

  • Chomps: In Generation 3, "chomps" are when a sea monster's passion boils and they get the urge to bite heads off. Though this is said to be a family condition from Lagoona.
