Draculaura must discover her familiar to open a Witchcraft Codex and hone her powers.

Plot[]

Draculaura has only 10 minutes to do her IBall journal before going to class. She had spent the weekend at home in Transylvania with her father and the rest of her family, she was going to do her monster minute while she was there, but her father kept her busy with their weekend fun activities. Clawdeen spent the weekend at her home in the human world with her father and brother, while Frankie spent it by going hiking for the first time. The three boos return to their dorm in Monster High and hug each other, having missed each other very much. Frankie sits in their bed to relax and asks Clawdeen to bring them their "house feet", which are foot prostheses with slippers. Clawdeen grabs them but the feet smell bad, so Draculaura uses her magic to levitate the feet to Frankie. Frankie comments Draculaura is getting better at witchcraft and Clawdeen asks her how her weekend was. Draculaura says that although it was good to stay with her family, everyone there still treats her like she is a baby, she then starts magically levitating more objects while complaining about her family treating her like a baby.

At this moment, a bat comes out of her suitcase, whom Draculaura recognizes as Count Fabulous. Count sees her levitating the objects, Draculaura, at first, tries to come up with an excuse, but then confesses to him she's been praticing witchcraft, leaving the bat in shock. Draculaura assures him she will tell her father when the time is right, and Count accepts her choice of doing witchcarft. Draculaura then introduces her bat to her roommates, she explains to them that every baby vampire receives a bat to serve as their babysitters. Count Fabulous was Draculaura's babysitter in her infant centuries, but now that she is a teenager he was suppose to retire, saying this with a questioning tune to him. Count then flies to her suitcase and takes from it Draculaura's old cuddle jammies, believing she might need them. Draculaura, annoyed, tells Count she's not a baby anymore. To cheer up Draculaura, Clawdeen gives her something she found in a witch pop-up: a Witchcraft Codex. Draculaura gets super excited with it, the book is for high level witchcraft. Draculaura can't get it open, and there are no instructions about it, so Draculaura casts a spell to make the book speak so it can explain to her what to do.

The speaking Codex is impressed with Draculaura's magic skills, then explains that to unlock it, she needs her true witch's familiar. Frankie gets confused, Draculaura explains that a familiar is a witch's companion animal, usually a cat. But Draculaura doesn't have a familiar. The Codex asks if she is indeed a witch and gets suprised upon learning she is a vampire as well. The book then says that if Draculaura's familiar doesn't unlock it in six hours, it will self-destruct, and starts the countdown. Although anxius, Draculaura tries to calm down and think. Since a witch's familiar should be close to their witch, she believes her familiar might have showed up while they all were gone for the weekend. The trio starts looking for the familiar in their room, but then Frankie finds a pile of papers with their homework, and the three boos realize they have forgotten to do their homework. The Codex tells the trio it has on its pages a spell called "homework in flash", that can make homework really fast, before the speaking spell wears off. Frankie suggests Count Fabulous might be Draculaura's familiar, but the lock is for a cat's paw. Draculaura believes her cat got lost in the school. She tells Count to stay in the room, claiming she doesn't need him looking after her, then she, Frankie and Clawdeen run off to find the cat. So Count Fabulous sadly enters back in the dorm.

Draculaura, Clawdeen and Frankie meet up in the hall empty-handed, none of them found the familiar. Clawdeen decides to use her werewolf howl to find the familiar. She howls to attract a cat to them, but ends up calling mutiple cats. In their dorm, Clawdeen, Frankie and Draculaura are having a hard time dealing with so many cats in their room as Count Fabulous watches everything from a safe distance. Draculaura tries many cats to unlock the Codex, but with no avail, so she sends each cat she has already tried outside. Finally, they've tried all cats they've brought and none of them is her familiar. They get exhausted, Frankie suggests they should to the homework themselves, but Draculaura says this isn't about the homework, she knows she is a good witch and she is ready for the codex and a familair, and if she isn't good enough by now, she doubts she will ever be, and starts to think maybe vampires aren't meant to be witches. Count Fabulous gives her old plushie toy from her childhood to cheer her up, because the toy always made her feel better as a child. But she declines it, to Count's sadness. Clawdeen tries to talk with Count about it, but he ignores her and leaves.

Draculaura comes up with a new plan. In the school graveyard, Draculaura decides to use witchcraft to unlock the Codex. She casts a spell to send lightnings from the sky to the book, but the lightnings end up striking Frankie. Thanks to being a simulacrum, Frankie is not hurt, just a little staticky, then Clawdeen, due to her fur making her susceptible to staticky cling, gets clinged to Frankie. The two separate and Frankie takes a step back to not get stricken again. Draculaura tries the spell again, but the lightings strike Frankie yet again, and Clawdeen gets statically clinged to Frankie again, pushing the two further. Draculaura tries the spell one more time, and this time lightnings finally strike the Codex. Unfortunately, it doesn't unlock the book, instead, all the cats in the school get statically clinged to Frankie and Clawdeen.

Now there's only a few more minutes before the Witchcraft Codex self-destructs. Draculaura gives up, believing she will never become a true witch. Count Fabulous looks at her with sadness. Clawdeen finally gets Count to listen to her, she says that even though he have known Draculaura for a long time, some things change as people grow up, and the best thing Count can do right now is listen to what Draculaura has to say. Count realizes she is right, he flies and sit next to Draculaura to listen to what she's feeling. Draculaura appreciates him, she explains she is a teenager now and her problems can't be solved with baby things, and some can't be solved at all. Count flies to Draculaura's lap and cuddles with her. This makes her feel better and she realizes she doesn't want to leave him, she suggests for her and Count, instead of being baby and babysitter, being friends. Count accepts it and they hug. Time has ran out and the Codex is about to self-destruct. But in the last moment, Count Fabulous transforms into a cat, revealing himself to be a shape shifter, and unlocks the book. Turns out Count Fabulous is indeed Draculaura's familiar after all, Count then snuggles with Draculaura. Draculaura now can use all the spells in the Codex. The bell screams, meaning class will start soon. Draculaura finds the homework in a flash spell and uses it to finish their homework very fast. The homework is done, Draculaura finishes making her monster minute on her IBall. The trio runs to class, with Draculaura taking Count Fabulous with her. The Codex, still under the speaking spell, complains on being left alone in the dorm.
