Phoenix in Monster High

Phoenix-Fabelwesen

A Phoenix is a type of monster in Monster High. In Greek mythology, a phoenix is a long-lived bird that cyclically regenerates or is otherwise born again. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor. The legendary phoenix is a large, grand bird, much like an eagle or peacock. It is brilliantly colored in reds, purples, and yellows, associated with the rising sun and fire. Sometimes a nimbus will surround it, illuminating it in the sky. Its eyes are blue and shine like sapphires. It builds its own funeral pyre or nest and ignites it with a single clap of its wings. After death, it rises gloriously from the ashes and flies away. In ancient Egypt and in Classical antiquity, the phoenix is a fabulous bird associated with the worship of the sun. The Egyptian phoenix was said to be the size of an eagle. It has a brilliant scarlet, a gold plumage, and a musical cry. Only one phoenix existed at any time, and it was very long-lived—no ancient authority gave it a life span of fewer than five hundred years. As its end approached, the phoenix fashioned a nest of aromatic boughs, spices, then set it on fire to be consumed in flames. From the pyre miraculously sprang a new phoenix, which, after embalming its father’s ashes in an egg of myrrh, flew with the ashes to Heliopolis (“City of the Sun”) in Egypt, where it deposited them on the altar in the temple of the Egyptian god of the sun, Re. A variant of the story made the dying phoenix fly to Heliopolis and immolate itself in the altar fire, from which the young phoenix then rose.

Monster High[]

Generation 1[]

Not much is known about phoenixes in this generation, as the only known phoenix is a hybrid and in the Fright-Mare comic she's a fire elemental. Flara Blaze is a Fright-mare who inhabits the Dream Pastures, a secret place within the walls of the Monster High Catacombs, a place where the monster's dream collide. She was born when a phoenix had a dream that collided with a Nightmare from the Dream Pastures, resulting in Flara.

Generation 3[]

Phoenix is a famous pop singer, who performs at the Monster Fest.

She was once a student at Monster High, but graduated sometime before the animated series.

Phoenix is a friendly and confident pop star. When she was younger, she tried to be the monster others expected her to be. But it wasn’t the real her, and trying to be someone else made her miserable. So, using her phoenix powers, she regenerated into a new form that is true to the real her. Since then, Phoenix has encouraged others to be true to themselves, and to “weave their own webs”.
