Premise[]

Frankie wants to ask Cleo to the Monster Ball with an epic Monster Match, but has to get to her first before Deuce does.

Plot[]

The episode opens as Skullette announces the lunch of the evening to the students of Monster High, as they roam the halls. Skullette also notes that students best be studying for their finals, and that the Monster Ball is scheduled for the next friday. As Skullette makes the announcement, Iris receives a bouquet of skull-headed flowers, and Toralei presents her Monster Ball dress look to her cousins, Purrsephone and Meowlody. As Skullette's announcement finishes, Cleo walks through the halls of Monster High, excitedly handing out flyers for the upcoming Monster Ball. Not watching who she is handing to, she presents a flyer to Clawdeen, Draculaura, and Frankie. Draculaura is the first to remind Cleo that the three of them are on the Dance Committee, and Frankie chimes in that they printed the flyers Cleo has! Cleo brushes it off, gushing about how excited she is for the ball! She walks off, going back to handing out flyers. Lagoona quickly joins the group, as they walk down the halls together, exclaiming that she finds the Monster Ball as romantic as her favorite terror-novela, which turns out to be very similar to the Boo Crew's semester at Monster High... minus a shapeshifter impersonating their loved ones. The four monsters briefly exchange looks, before laughing off the idea, finding the prospect ridiculous.

As Frankie, Clawdeen, Draculaura, and Lagoona roam the halls, Lagoona asks her friends if they plan to ask a sweetheart, or friend to the dance. Clawdeen answers "no", as she's too preoccupied with the Blood Moon Eclipse, and bringing back her Mom from Beheme. Draculaura drops hints of having someone in mind, but doesn't want to jinx it, and Frankie says they're charged to ask someone, but doesn't drop any names. As they lament their excitement, Frankie trips over a super-long fuse. They point it out to the others, who note that it's strange, and ask where it came from. As the fuse begins to burn up, the four of them chase the fuse through the halls, leading them outside. The fuse also catches the attention of Abbey Bominable, who turns to follow the burning fuse as well. Abbey is the first to find that it leads to a purple pedestal, decorated with blue snowflakes and firecrackers. The crackers light up, and a heart-shaped projection displaying an image of Abbey and Heath Burns sets ablaze. As Lagoona, Frankie, Clawdeen and Draculaura gater nearby, watching curiously, Heath Burns emerges from behind the elaborate display, and asks Abbey to go to the Monster Ball with him. Excitedly, Abbey accepts, and the two quickly run in for a hug, causing a steam explosion, complete with a heart-shaped steam cloud. A group of nearby students jump up, and exclaim their joy at the prospect of a new Monster Match. The reaction of Abbey and Heath's combined powers accidentally puts out Heath's fire hair, which he is quick to re-light. Lagoona exclaims how beautiful the Monster Match is, to which Frankie asks what a Monster Match is. Draculaura explains that it's a gesture for when you want to ask a friend, crush, or the love of your after-life to the Monster Ball. Clawdeen notes that it's similar to a human Prom-posal, to which Lagoona claims they're totally different, because Monster Matching... is for Monsters!

Inspired by this, Frankie exclaims that they want to do a Monster Match for their someone, and begins to ask about the logistics of an overzealous plan. Before Draculaura can finish telling Frankie to cool their jets, Clawd Wolf approaches her, with a wheelbarrow filled with old boots. When prompted, Clawd explains that Clawdeen told him that the way to ask someone to a dance was with a "Boot... Kay", so he thought that lots would be better than just one boot. While Clawdeen mutters what she meant to say "bouquet" under her breath, Draculaura exclaims that she loves vintage footwear, and accepts Clawd's invitation to the Monster Ball, and the group of onlooking students cheer them on again. Frankie is excited that another one of their friends got to partake in a match, but when they see Cleo, they're reminded of their own match. They run off to talk to her, but before they reach Cleo, they're stopped by Deuce Gorgon, and his seven deadly snakes. While Frankie exclaims they're in the middle of something, Deuce says it'll only take a minute, revealing a giant plate of spookies, and asks Frankie to go to the ball with him, as friends. When Frankie asks for clarification, Deuce explains that he finds dances boring, unless you're with someone chill, and wants Frankie to go with him to "help pass the time". Although less than thrilled, Frankie finds themself saying yes anyways, which gets very little fanfare from a singular onlooker. As Frankie accepts the plate of spookies, and Deuce leaves, they begin to worry about what they've gotten themself into.

Frankie rambles about the situation to Clawdeen and Draculaura, who offer solutions while eating the plate of spookies. But every time they think that a solution is reached, Frankie keeps going. By the time the plate is finished, Clawdeen and Draculaura tell Frankie it's sweet that they care about Deuce's feelings, but it's not fair to either of them if Frankie wants to go with someone else. Frankie agrees with their friends, and announces that they're telling Deuce, and matching with Cleo, to which Clawdeen and Draculaura excitedly squeal. Frankie finds Deuce, and explains the situation, to which he's understanding, and wants Frankie to go to the dance with whoever they're feeling. Deuce then exclaims that he knows who he's matching with next, especially since they've done a lot of work on their friendship after their break-up. Frankie waves him goodbye, before realizing that Cleo is Deuce's ex, and they want to Monster Match with Cleo! Frankie worries about finding Cleo, but a passing Goobert is watching Cleo's EekTok livestream on his phone, which clues Frankie in to Cleo's location- The Scratching Post, where she's in line waiting to meet Autumn Patch. Frankie thanks Goobert for his help, and runs out of school, determined to reach Cleo before Deuce.

Frankie faces many adversities on their way, and watches as many other couples Monster Match, including Lagoona and Gil Webber, Brahm and Deadward, Spectra and Finnegan, and even Kuma and Nefera! While Frankie arrives disheveled, Deuce arrives before them, stating that he had a nice walk, before entering the Post. Frankie follows suite, panicking that they may be 'too late' to ask Cleo to the dance. They watch nervously as Deuce approaches Cleo, tapping her on the shoulder and gaining her attention. Frankie runs to interject, but trips over their own feet, landing head-first in a plate of food. Cleo and Deuce both notice, and run to their aid, making sure that Frankie is okay. Frankie brushes it off as nerves, to which Cleo is relieved. She asks Frankie to give her a second, and turns to see that Autumn Patch is gone. Disappointed, Cleo muses that their plan for a Monster Match is ruined, and that they wanted to ask Frankie to the dance. Frankie is delighted to hear that Cleo wanted to go to the dance with them, as Cleo explains that her plan was to make an EekTok with Autumn, and ask, as she finds she works best in a format that can be "Virtually Applauded" by everyone around them. Frankie explains to Cleo that they wanted to ask her to the dance too! They're quickly interrupted, however, by none other than Autumn Patch! She explains how she missed her own Monster Ball due to being on tour, and laments that it would have been so cool to help Cleo. Seeing an opportunity, Cleo asks if Autumn wants to "make it up" by DJ-ing the Monster Ball the next friday. Autumn accepts, and Cleo notes that they'll be in touch. As Autumn Patch leaves, Cleo checks up on Frankie again, making sure that they're okay, to which Frankie exclaims how excited they are, to which Cleo reciprocates. Frankie excitedly launches blue sparks into the air from their hands, which is followed by the excited cheers of onlooking Monster High students. While Cleo is in awe, Frankie asks if Deuce will be okay, since he now has nobody to attend the dance with. He instead brushes it off, exclaiming that no matter what, he'll still have seven "deadly" dates, in the form of his snakes, who have even been practicing their dance moves. Deuce and his snakes show off their dance moves, and the episode closes on Deuce encouraging Pride to show off his solo, yelling "Go pride!".
