Uh, mi amiga, did you say the bottomless ice chasm of DOOM? Sure you didn’t mean something else?
Lagoona, "Nightmare Nightmore"

Lagoona Blue is a 2022-introduced and all-around character. She is a Sea Monster/Nymph hybrid, and a student at Monster High. She takes pride in being the fiercest and most athletic monster out of all her peers.

Character[]

Personality[]

Lagoona may appear to be a cute and bubbly sea monster, and she is—but when faced with disagreement, her needle-sharp teeth can flash out in an instant. Because of this, she is known as the most bloodthirsty monster at school. However, she's working through this and learning what it takes to be in a relationship, whether it's romantic or between friends.

For the longest time, she has had a secret softer side: finding comfort in her childhood toy, Señor Squeaky. Although she loved her toy, she feared that if people knew about him, it would make her seem less intimidating. But she eventually realizes that showing vulnerability is a true sign of strength and now carries Señor Squeaky with her with no shame or embarrassment.

Lagoona grew up in a remote Castillo with dreams of exploring the world beyond. Her limited knowledge of life on land is filled in by romantic fairy tales and high-drama telenovelas, which gives her a dramatic and sometimes exaggerated view of reality. Lagoona aspires for her life to be as magical as the characters she admires, and when things don’t go her way, her vivid imagination can take a darker turn (in a kid-friendly way). Determined and persistent, she’s always on a quest for love and happiness. Eager to make new friends at Monster High, she’s up for any adventure and loves trying new things.

While Lagoona is confident in her artistic ideas and creative vision, she struggles with a fear of conflict. She often keeps her true feelings bottled up to avoid arguments, a habit linked to her family’s condition known as "chomps," where stress or anger triggers an uncontrollable urge to bite things. Her loyalty to her friends runs deep, but she worries that disagreeing with them could push them away. In the episode "Monster Movie," she learns that being honest doesn’t always lead to conflict and that her friends respect her creativity.

Appearance[]

Lagoona is a fairly tall, slender, light hot-pink-skinned teenage sea monster with freckles on her face. Her skin sports a cyan gradient on her fin-shaped ears and feet up to her calves, and her forehead has visible cyan fins. She also has long straight cyan, blonde, and lavender hair which has been kept into a high-ponytail by a coral-inspired black ponytail holder. Her hair also includes bangs left loose and tucked behind her ears - the left one being cyan and the right one being lavender, in which she wore pearl hair clips for accessories.

Her eyebrows are teal-blue, and her brown-gray eyes possesses noticeable blue rings around the pupils and thick eyelashes protruding from each eye - the bottom lashes being colored in a shade of royal blue. She also has fins on the sides of her lower legs and arms, the latter of which are not visible, while the former are shown to be an azure color. Her makeup consists of cerulean-teal eyeshadow, hot-pink lipstick, and cerulean-teal nail polish, painted on her sharp claws and toenails.

For her style, Lagoona has a mix of 80s fashion and athletic clothes, with a mix of mermaid style. Her colors are pink and teal with magenta and a cerulean color which are her accent colors.

Her attire consists of a bright pink crop-top hoodie with coral fishnet sleeves and black accents; the hood itself is a cyan-azure color with a black scale pattern, with pastel rainbow tie-dye fabric fins at the head. Her waist-high shorts are also pastel rainbow tie-dye, with fin accents at the sides. Her fanny pack is cyan. She also wears a white puka-shell choker necklace and her cyan earrings are a pearl on the right ear and fishbones on the left. Her shoes have azure soles and shocking pink sandal straps, the top ones saying "MONSTER" in black, and with wing-like fins fanning out the outer sides.

  • Hair texture is different between all three designs: The doll/music video design has wavy hair, the artwork has silky straight hair, and the animation is somewhere in-between. Her skin tone in the launch artwork is close to coral, while in the TV show it's closer to pink.
  • In the launch artwork, her ear fins are completely cyan and have only three spikes, however, in the animation they have five spikes and are only cyan near the tips and the inner webbing. On her doll/recent artwork, they are completely pink, as well as smaller with less webbing and a wavier shape to its four spikes.
  • Her forehead scales are drawn as dots on her doll and are completely missing in the TV series.
  • Her freckles are very slight and purplish in the animation but are the same cyan as her forehead scales in the doll.
  • Her eye color is different across each design; a dull brown in the artwork, a rich brown with teal accents in the doll, and dark warm gray in the animation,.
  • Her launch artwork depicts her with two fangs visible while her mouth is closed, however in the other designs her teeth are only visible when her mouth is open.
  • In her launch artwork, her hands are transparent blue like her legs but in the other designs its just at her legs.
  • Her doll's hands are completely pink with no webbing, her launch artwork's hands are cyan with no webbing, and her animation's hands are pink with metallic blue webbing and nails.
  • The cyan on her legs is sparkly in the artwork, with a normal matte texture on the animation, and a translucent azure on the doll.
  • The soles of her shoes in the animation are much darker, and her TV show design's shoes are completely different: maintaining the azure soles but with less of a platform around the heel, and instead has heeled sandals with a hot-pink octopus hugging each foot, and azure soles, and her cyan earrings are a pearl on the right ear and fishbones on the left.
  • Her animated TV series design wears a completely different outfit, as it is based on an early prototype of her doll: set of bright-chartreuse, starfish dangle earrings. She wears a hoodie sweatshirt with a gradient of amber-yellow, hot-pink, purple and cyan-blue, followed by the same black detailing as as her doll design, as well as a design of a seahorse surrounded by bubbles printed on the chest. She also wear a smaller red fanny pack which has a design of piranha teeth printed on the front and a small bite taken out of the side. She also wore a set of blue jean short-shorts which are worn over fishnet shorts and heeled sandals with a hot-pink octopus hugging each foot, and azure soles, and her cyan earrings are a pearl on the right ear and fishbones on the left.

Abilities[]

Being daughter of a sea monster and a nymph, Lagoona's abilities are:

  • Swimming: She can swim easily in the water and does not even need to practice, for she is just naturally good at it.
    • Breathing Underwater: Lagoona can breathe underwater.
  • Amphibian Abilities: As an inherited trait from her father, Lagoona can breathe both on land and underwater.
  • Talking to Underwater Creatures: Lagoona can talk to underwater creatures.
  • Hydrokinesis: Lagoona can manipulate water to do whatever she wants; she can also blow water out of her ears.
    • Gathering water vapor: Sea Monsters can gather water vapor as a source of breathing on land. This power can also be used to generate water. Lagoona uses this ability in particular to shoot water out of her hands and ears.
  • Bite: She has a sharp bite like a piranha's when she goes into shark mode.
    • Teeth: Lagoona can change her teeth depending on the mood, relaxed, sharky sharp, and super monster teeth.
  • Smell Fear: Lagoona can smell fear from anyone.

Skillset[]

  • Writing & Storytelling - Lagoona loves writing creative graphic novels. One story she wrote was a tale about a sea monster girl who meets a freshwater monster, later in the story the boy gets in a fight with his evil twin. This would go on as a movie she made with her friends.
  • Drawing - Lagoona loves drawing as seen in her Skulltimate Secrets Locker. Her drawing style is said to be shoujo.
  • Singing: She is a great singer.
  • Bilingualism: Lagoona speaks English and certain words in Spanish, often code-mixing them by speaking Spanglish.
  • Swimming: Lagoona is a great swimmer, as mentioned above, and she can swim very fast.'

Weaknesses[]

  • Chomps: Mentioned as a family condition in "Monster Movie". Lagoona has a habit of chewing on objects with her rows of sharp teeth.

Relationships[]

Family[]

Her mother is an ocean nymph, and her father is a saltwater monster (which implies Lagoona is a hybrid; like previous generations).

In "Creature Clash", in a presentation of their scaritage, Lagoona revealed that her and Finnegan Wake are second cousins, having a great grandkraken in common. She then went on to state that her ancestor stole the heart of his ancestor (literally). Despite Finnegan finding Lagoona’s bloodthirstiness to be disturbing at times, the two are still very close and are often seen spending time together.

In "Monster Movie", it's revealed that, when she was little, she had a huge family, and they all lived together in her castillo. But one day they had a fight, because they couldn’t agree on what to have for dinner. Soon the fight got heated, causing them to chomp on many things. In the end, Lagoona's family divided. Her relatives moved out, and she was left alone with her mother in their castillo, causing her to have a lonely childhood until she attended Monster High. Because of that, Lagoona is afraid to disagree with her friends, out of fear of getting into a fight and losing them just like her relatives.

Friends[]

Pets[]

She owns a piranha named Neptuna.

Frenemies[]

In Creature Clash, it's revealed she eats her frenemies. However, according to her, they are ethically sourced.

Romance[]

Lagoona loves romance stories and hopes to find her true love.

In "Over-Brotective", it's revealed that Lagoona had a boyfriend at some point before the series' course, and that during the Growl-o-Games, he fainted during laser tag and nearly got his eyefins singed off, because he thought the lasers were fake. It's unknown when or why they broke up.

Also, in the same episode, Deuce referred to the guy as her "last" boyfriend, meaning Lagoona might have had other boyfriends before.

This was confirmed in “Officially Complicated”, where it was revealed that Lagoona had previously been in a relationship with a ghost, named Wailon.

In "Horoscare", her horoscare app said to her: "Music will lure your true love." So, she played a tuba the whole day to find her true love. At the end of the day, Lagoona finds Barkimedes pushing Toralei, who is stuck in an ectoplasm trap, and believes he is her true love, and he believes the same. However, after this episode, they are shown to have forgotten it.

In "Monster Movie", Lagoona writes a love story, where the main character, heavily based on herself, falls in love with a freshwater monster. In the end of episode, a freshwater monster, named Gil Weber, is introduced. In “A Little Boost”, Lagoona meets Gil for the first time and immediately gets a crush on him. As the two got to know each other better, the closer they became, with Gil starting to have a crush on Lagoona as well.

In "Fresh Waters Run Deep", Gil and Lagoona team up to win the sea monster talisman from Gil’s cousin Lochlan.

In “Monster Match”, Lagoona asks him to be her date to the Monster Ball. He happily agrees.

In “The Deuce Date” the two go on a date to celebrate Heartbeast Night together.

In “Officially Complicated” they're confirmed to be dating and become “Eek-tok Official”.
