Hemming is a 2024-introduced cartoon-only character and the former main antagonist of the 2022 series' second season. He is a Nordic werewhale, who used his shape-shifting abilities to disguise himself as Mr. Foxford, and later several other monsters, to find a sense of belonging. After seeing the error of his ways, Clawdeen Wolf gave Hemming her Moonclaw as a gift. With it, he was able to transform into a permanent form unique to him: a werepolar bear. Since then, he has become a new student at Monster High.
Character[]
Personality[]
Hemming was alone for most of his life, never meeting another werewhale due to his species being "solitary". Because of this, he hated being a werewhale. To feel less alone, he used his powers to take the forms of others, so he could make friends. But he couldn't keep a form for long, and when his powers went haywire the "friends" he made turned on him. In order to find out how to stay in a form permanently, he disguised himself as Mr. Foxford to access information on were-creatures at Furball Hall.
When he revealed his true form, he apologized to Clawdeen and her friends, understanding what he did was wrong, and planned on returning to the sea. However, Clawdeen, understanding his pain, gave him her Moonclaw, so he could take on a form that was unique to him, instead of stealing the forms of others. Thanks to her, he was able to find a form that was unique to him - a werepolar bear - which allowed him to finally belong.
Headmistress Bloodgood then enrolls Hemming into Monster High, but also makes him do community service for his actions. With his new form and new friends, Hemming no longer feels alone and is finally happy.
He often talks to his whale plush, Whaley (likely a coping mechanism he developed from being alone for so long).
Appearance[]
Hemming's true appearance is a werewhale. He has a cobalt aquamarine complexion with white markings covering from his snout and head, ventral side, to the underside of his tail fluke and under his vectorial fins. He has blue eyes and wears Clawdeen's necklace on his right pectoral fin.
When Clawdeen gives Hemming her Moonclaw, he takes the permanent form of a werepolar bear.
When using his shapeshifting powers, he is able to look like anyone or anything.
Abilities[]
- Shapeshifting: Ever since he turned 13, Hemming has been able to disguise himself as anyone, provided he has a piece of the person's DNA (ex: hair, tooth, etc.). Though he cannot maintain the form forever. The only way he could stay in a form permanently was to find a way to "belong", but, because he kept taking the forms of others, he couldn't. However, thanks to the Moonclaw, he was able to create a form that was unique to him, allowing him to belong and, therefore, have a permanent form as a werepolar bear.
- Dimensional Portal: Through Whaley's use, Hemming can open up a portal to an alternate dimension guarded by a troll. He often used Whaley to trap people he disguised himself as, like Foxford, Clawdeen, and Bloodgood.
