Ghoulia Yelps is a 2022-introduced and all-around character.
Appearance[]
Body[]
Ghoulia has pale green skin, lapis lazuli-colored upturned eyes, and blue, brown, or black eyebrows, and long, straight, aquamarine-blue hair with curtain bangs that frame her face, which is usually tied back into low pigtails. Ghoulia wears a pair of pink, vintage, triangular cat-eye glasses with anti-radiation blue lenses. Her makeup consists of green eye shadow on her eyelid, outer V, and lower lashline, with black eye shadow fading into the pink in the crease, black eyeliner, and pink lipstick.
Clothing[]
In terms of accessories, Ghoulia wears a light gray slouchy beanie with a brain decal patch on the body and a heart-shaped brain decal patch on the brim. She wears tombstone-shaped earrings with "RIP" raised on the surface (or pink heart outlines for simplicity, like in her series look).
Her outfit includes an oversized bomber jacket with a gray brain pattern, with green sleeve stripes that feature the word "braaaaaains," along with another heart-shaped brain decal, and a black ribbed waistband, cuffs, and a rib-knit collar. Underneath her bomber jacket, she wears a ripped black turtleneck crop-top with a rainbow heart-shaped brain on the front, and a dogwood rose pleather melting miniskirt, featuring a green zipper, with the Monster High Skullette functioning as the zipper itself, and brain hearts on her skirt's belt.
Ghoulia also wears silver combat boots with hot-pink laces, belt straps with small silver buckles, and a brain pattern sculpted on the black soles.
Personality[]
Ghoulia defies the brainless zombie stereotype with her sharp wit, curiosity, and quirky personality. With her Lightning-fast fingers, she’s undoubtedly the top gamer at Monster High, and is often seen with her handheld video game console. As a zombie, her slow pace can be a challenge, she overcomes this challenge by using a skateboard, allowing her to move from place to place faster than her undead legs could. If only she was as good at stopping. Good thing zombies can't get hurt!
An essential tool in Ghoulia's routine is her well-organized schedule. She carefully plans her day to fit in all her classes, study sessions, clubs, and even some casketball practice. Following this schedule helps her stay on top of everything, but if something changes last minute, it can make her feel frustrated. For example, when Draculaura feeds Mortimer ahead of Ghoulia. While her schedule helps her manage her activities, it also means she sometimes tries to do too much.
Ghoulia is determined and hardworking. She is competitive and constantly strives to improve. Her creative and resourceful nature helps her think outside the box, like when she attempts to use cloning magic to earn more points. even though this plan backfires. She is also supportive and open-minded, as shown by her positive reaction to Draculaura practicing witchcraft.
In monster society, zombies are often judged and underestimated due to stereotypes. She states, "It's hard for zombies to get points. We're not as fast as other monsters. I wanted to be the first zombie to be number one and show everyone they misjudged us." This highlights the challenges faced by zombies. Her determination to succeed and prove her worth is a clear metaphor for the experiences of many minority groups striving for recognition and equality. She becomes the first zombie to top the Horror Roll.
Despite Ghoulia's many strengths, she navigates life with anxiety[1] and an anxiety disorder[2] called 'brain freeze,' inspired by real-life anxiety tics. This condition causes her to suddenly and repeatedly say only the word 'brains' as a nervous tic. Ghoulia developed this tic after meeting her idol, the renowned singer and star of stage and screen Skelly Vonderbone, during the events of Flaunt Your Skeleton. With Skelly's help, Ghoulia began the journey of embracing her 'brain freeze,'
In Dawn of the Dread, Ghoulia gets anxious after a test, and Lagoona recommends she see the school’s counselor. Ghoulia sets an appointment but becomes anxious about that as well. Her anxiety monster manifests in her room, and she struggles to get rid of it before her counselor appointment. Her roommate, Twyla, finds her sleepier and more anxious than before and tries to help, but with no success. Ghoulia eventually finds a way to manage her anxiety monster, realizing its importance and the need to control it. At her counselor appointment, she discovers the counselor also has an anxiety monster, providing her with a sense of understanding and support.
