Story[]
Frankie is being chased by Creature 4.0. Neighthan and his hybrid friends arrive to help her. Together, Frankie and the Hybrids escape from the monster through the hallways of Monster High. Frankie interrupts the scene to inform the audience to rewind to the beginning to understand how all the events started.
Monster High is celebrating its 200th anniversary. Frankie, Draculaura, Clawdeen, Lagoona, Cleo, and Ghoulia agree to help their drama teacher, Mr. Where, put on a play to commemorate Monster High’s history. In the hallways, the ghouls meet a group of Hybrid monsters who seem unfriendly. One Hybrid, Neighthan Rot, captures Frankie's attention. In class, the students are presenting their scaritage projects to Mr. Rotter. After Cleo finishes her presentation, Robecca shares about her father, Hexiciah Steam, a mad scientist and a former teacher at Monster High who discovered the secret to creating life. One day, he mysteriously disappeared and Robecca has held onto a time box to remember him. After Robecca, it is Frankie's turn to present. Unfortunately, she fails the project due to her lack of knowledge of her heritage and has to redo the project.
In the Creepeteria, the ghouls are having lunch with Robecca, Venus, and Jinafire. Frankie is still upset of not knowing much about her grandfather, Victor Frankenstein, since her parents refuse to talk about him. Robecca agrees to take the ghouls to her father's old workshop in the catacombs, where she believes has her father’s old journal with information about Victor. Toralei decides to tag along, much to Cleo's annoyance. As the ghouls leave, the Hybrids, Avea, Bonita, and Sirena, have doubts that Monster High will be any different from the other schools they attended. Neighthan still believes that Monster High is different.
After a long journey in the catacombs, the ghouls reach the entrance to Hexiciah's workshop and learn that it can only be accessed at the right time. The ghouls search and eventually find Hexiciah's journal, which explains that Victor was a Monster High student who was obsessed with discovering the spark to creating life. Toralei, who has been told not to touch anything prior, pulls a lever that activates a machine that pulls all of the ghouls inside.
The ghouls eventually find themselves in 1814, realizing that the machine sent them back 200 years into the past. They decide to wait an hour until the lab opens again, but are forced to search for Toralei, who wandered off. While exploring Monster High, Frankie and Ghoulia witness Hexiciah Steam in a class session, berating a student named Sparky, who is interested in learning to create life. After class, Frankie talks to Sparky and explains that her grandfather created life. Sparky becomes interested enough to sneakily follow Frankie and her friends as they use the time machine to return home. The machine began experiencing malfunctions as the ghouls are traveling through the portal.
Frankie and Ghoulia return to the present, but discover that their friends have been fused into Dracubecca (fusion of Draculaura and Robecca), Cleolei (fusion of Cleo and Toralei), Clawvenus (fusion of Clawdeen and Venus), and Lagoonafire (fusion of Lagoona and Jinafire). They decide to head back to Mr. Where’s rehearsal while Ghoulia fixes the time machine. The rehearsal ends in failure as the ghouls begin to lose control of their new bodies and powers. Neighthan, Avea, Bonita, and Sirena, who all witnessed the rehearsal, agrees to help the new Fusions learn to control themselves. Meanwhile, Sparky follows the ghouls to the present and steals a piece of the time machine, believing it is the secret ingredient to creating life.
The Hybrids successfully help the new Fusions learn to control their bodies and powers while Sparky creates Creature 4.0 in the catacombs. Ghoulia returns to the lab to find a piece of the time machine missing and quickly informs her friends. Sparky successfully creates his monster and it goes on a rampage throughout Monster High after having a severe reaction to a camera. It interrupts the school play and the ghouls learn of Sparky’s antics. With the help of the Hybrids, they plan to lure Creature 4.0 back into the catacombs to shut it down. The creature continues to chase the monsters in the hallways and starts to steal all of Frankie’s friends one by one. Having enough, Frankie uses all of her spark to save and defuse her friends. Upon witnessing this, Sparky learns that Frankie’s emotions is what gave her true life, which is something that his creation lacked. After defeating Creature 4.0, Frankie collapses and learns that Sparky is her grandfather, Victor Frankenstein, before dying. Her friends decide to use Hexiciah's recharge chamber in hopes of reviving Frankie, but fails. Hexiciah suddenly arrives to help. He advises everyone to think of their best memories of Frankie to save her. Ghoulia spreads the word and everyone at Monster High begins sharing their sparks and Frankie is successfully revived. Everyone then bids farewell to Hexiciah and Victor as they use the time machine to return to their timeline.
Frankie and her friends resume the school play, explaining Monster High’s history and sharing the belief that every monster with unique flaws, are welcome at Monster High.
