Summary[]
This volume features a narrator, who introduces the viewer to the night of the Monster High Talon Show. Behind the scenes, everyone is getting ready for the big night, but it's all seemingly a disaster - Cleo can't get her scarabs under control, Heath has accidentally burnt his notes, Lagoona's fish tank is leaking, and Frankie and Clawdeen can't help the showrunner, Iris Clops, getting the sound system working again. Draculaura witnesses all of this panicked, before seeing her dad, Dracula, in the audience waving at her. Not wanting to let her father down, Draculaura gets an idea. She gets Clawdeen to keep a lookout for her as she hides to cast a spell using her witchcraft abilities to get everything in order. Unfortunately however, as Frankie is still trying to fix the sound system, a bolt of electricity they blast into the system flies out of it and straight into Draculaura's spell, now acting as a lifespark. The narrator notes that this could be a problem.
The Boo Crew identify the being created from the freaky fusion of monster powers as a Spark - a floating ball of bright blue-purple fire or electricity with a pair of eyes and lightning-shaped eyebrows. It can also fly around, and when it touches someone, they briefly glow and are made to sing and perform a musical number instead of speaking until the song ends, whereupon the magic will wear off until they are touched by the Spark again. This is shown when it makes Clawdeen, Draculaura, Frankie, and Toralei sing and perform the song "Spark", as they all spread trying to catch it, but to no avail. The Spark also makes its way into the sound system, causing it very briefly to work again, much to an unsuspecting Iris' delight. The song ends, and Clawdeen, Draculaura, and Frankie are still unable to capture the Spark, and must do so to prevent exposing Draculaura's witchcraft to everyone attending the Talon Show.
