As a story- and character-heavy franchise, the dolls and doll accessories of the Monster High brand come packaged with various stories, messages, and notes printed on the boxes and in pack-in paperwork. The amount and nature of the doll logs differ per doll line and aren't necessarily the same for each doll within one line. Deluxe lines tend to come with a booklet, usually a diary, an in-box quote, and back-of-the-box content. Budget lines and fashion pack lines may come with either a single back-of-the-box quote or nothing at all, while playsets tend to have several messages and a mini-comic printed on the box. Semi-deluxe lines can go either way between deluxe and budget lines.

Doll diaries[]
The doll diaries are one of the two main pieces of extras included with the Monster High dolls, the other being the profiles, and one of the three main pieces of fictional support of the toys and merchandise. They tend to be packaged with 'Signature' dolls, San Diego Comic-Con International dolls, and party-themed dolls. The diaries together form their own continuity, though one that lightly overlaps with the cartoon continuity. The diaries were discontinued during the beginning of Generation 2.
There are two cases of "doll" logs that have not been published with any doll. The first case is that of the Friends plushie sets, of which each comes with a profile for the included pet printed on the back of the box. Unlike the students' profiles, this is the only place those profiles are published. The second case is that of the Facebook profiles, which are small profiles found on the Monster High Facebook account. They only cover up to the characters introduced by Mid 2011.e
