The Deuce bro's got this!

Character[]

Occupation[]

Personality[]

He's a "monster's monster"—or so he wants you to think. He may have a chill, cool exterior, but he's actually a little dorky deep down. Deuce loves to take care of people and help out whenever possible. He longs for meaningful connections and is learning to stand up for himself against the constant peer pressure from his snakes.

Deuce's Instagram character profile

Deuce is calm, cool and friendly. Despite his mother’s belief that gorgons are never nice, Deuce is very kind and helpful, especially towards his friends. However, the snakes in his hair often give him advice, and this can sometimes get him into trouble (Pride, Greed, Wrath, Envy, Lust, Gluttony and Sloth). Deuce, unlike many monsters, doesn't hold any bad opinions on humans, as he befriended and helped Clawdeen discover if she was a monster when she arrived at Monster High.

As shown in "That Thing You Deuce", Deuce has a tendency to be a bit competitive, wanting to continue the gorgons' legacy of winning by winning the fundraiser of the school's casketball team, to the point of letting his snakes manipulate him. But when he saw the trouble this made and how Clawdeen was worried, Deuce gave up his mother's pride and took to his friend's side to fix everything, even though it meant he wouldn't win. Since then Deuce, as well as his snakes, have been working on their issues with competition, understanding that winning isn’t everything.

Appearance[]

Deuce is a slim, lime-green-skinned teenage gorgon who, befitting to his type of monster, sport green snakes for his hair which are named after the seven deadly sins (despite his monster's Greek origin).

His eyebrows are the same color as his snakes, and his green eyes have slit pupils. He also has sharp fangs inside of his mouth, and black painted-nails.

Deuce's attire consists of an emerald-green, scale-printed denim jacket with a black-detailed orange snake printed on the left sleeve, worn over a dark gray shirt with a graphic of a pale, grayish-purple snake printed on the front. He also wore black sweatpants with green stripes on the sides and a purple snake printed on the right, and a pair of snake-like off-white sneakers with dark red, dark blue, green and cyan accents. To avoid turning others into stone, Deuce wore a set of green snake-framed glasses, though the lenses allow his eyes to be shown.

Abilities[]

  • Stone Stare: Being a gorgon, Deuce has the ability to turn anyone or anything to stone with a beam that shoots from his eyes. This ability cannot be controlled or turned off, so he has to wear glasses at all times to avoid petrifying something whenever his eyes are open. When a gorgon’s petrifying beam blasts sugar, it turns the sugar into rock candy, and when the beam is reflected on or focused through some surfaces, it turns its victims into that substance (e.g. if one's gaze is focused through rock candy, victims will become rock candy themselves).[4]
  • Snakes For Hair: Deuce has poisonous, talking serpents in place of hair. They each have their own personalities corresponding to their names, and have their own individual consciousnesses.

Skills[]

  • Casketball: Deuce is great at playing casketball, and is a player on the school's casketball team.[4]
  • Cooking: Deuce is good at cooking, including baking, and enjoys cupsnakes.

Relationships[]

Family[]

His Mothers are Medusa and Lyra.

Medusa is Deuce's mother. Although she loves him, she can be overbearing with her insistence that he win at everything he does, and harshly orders his snakes to influence him on her behalf (though she neither gives these orders to Deuce himself nor allow him to hear what she tells his snakes). It is implied that because she is a successful businesswoman, she may frequently be away on business and does not live with and raise Deuce personally.[4] Although she tells him that gorgons are "never nice", he insists on being kind to others, even humans.[5]

Deuce has six older sisters, including Stheno and Eurayle, who see him has the "little snakelet" of the family[6] and don't believe he's capable of being independent.[3]

Snakes[]

Deuce has seven snakes for hair, each snake is named and is based after one of the seven deadly sins: Pride, Greed, Wrath, Envy, Lust, Gluttony and Sloth.

Deuce's snakes have a tendency to offer him poor advice and suggestions, prompting him to occasionally resort to covering them with a hat to induce sleep. Despite this, Deuce still maintains a generally positive relationship with his snakes.

Friends[]

Romance[]

Prior to the beginning of the series, Deuce and Cleo had briefly been in a romantic relationship together. However, they ultimately decided that they were better off as friends, and their romance ended amicably.[8] The episode “The Deuce Date” implies that Deuce is aromantic, which may be one of the reasons why he's no longer in a relationship with Cleo.

Trivia[]

  • Deuce enjoys cooking[9], particularly baking, and either volunteers or appears to be employed by the school to do so, such as providing snacks for the school scare rally[10] and being employed as a barista at the school's Coffin Bean.[11]
  • Deuce and his snakes do not share brains or senses; if one of them sees, hears, or thinks something, the other does not automatically know and must be told.[4]
  • Similar to Deuce's original iteration, he and Cleo de Nile had once been in a romantic relationship with each other in the past. However, they ultimately decided they were better off as friends and ended their romance amicably.[8] Cleo now instead has romantic feelings for Frankie Stein.[12]
  • His episode card is green and has orange and black striped snakes around it.
  • He has dyslexia, similar to his voice actor Tony Revolori, as revealed in "Vamps Just Wanna Have Fun".
  • In the episode "The Deuce Date" he says he is not into romance, leading to the conclusion he is most likely aromantic.
