Deuce is a 2010 introduced character and all-around good guy. He's a gorgon. Specifically, he's Medusa's son. He goes to Monster High and is a student there. Deuce's relationship with his mother is strained, which he does his best to make up for and stays away from his school life. He has a much better relationship with his aunt, Stheno, and her daughter, Viperine. They don't live in New Salem, though. Deuce is not only the hottest guy at Monster High, but he's also one of the most dependable and laid-back people you can hang out with. Due to his personality, many people are confused as to why he's going out with Cleo de Nile. She's a tough and impulsive princess, but it's these traits and their underlying issues that make them one of the best couples at school. Aside from being captain of several sports teams, especially basketball, Deuce spends his free time cooking. He's skilled at cooking but doesn't like to admit it.
Portrayers[]
- In the English version of the cartoon series, Deuce's voice was provided by Yuri Lowenthal.
- Cam Clarke filled in for part of volume 3 until Evan Smith was cast to be the new voice for Deuce.
- In Brazilian Portuguese, Deuce was voiced by Celso Alves, which was later replaced by Felipe Grinnan.
Character[]
Personality[]
Deuce is a popular monster at Monster High because he's friendly and outgoing with his peers. He's always welcoming to new students, like Frankie on her first day of school and Jackson Jekyll at lunch, even though he's an outcast. He's confident and easy-going, and he loves sports and being captain of the basketball team. He loves cooking, but tries to hide it. He's very devoted to his friend Cleo de Nile, and he puts up with her bad behavior with grace. Deuce also has a passion for sculpting, thanks to his mom's love of ancient art.. Appearance[]
He is tall, handsome and muscular. He has green eyes that can make you turn to stone (for a few hours), which is why he wears sunglasses. Deuce has scaly and green scalp hair, and on the top of his head there are six to nine snakes (depending on the medium) that form a Mohawk, or “snake-hawk” as Deuce likes to call it. There are green scales on Deuce’s bicep, but it’s hard to tell if it’s natural skin or a tattoo.
Relationships[]
Family[]
Deuce lives in New Salem with his mom Medusa, but it looks like they also have a house in Greece called Petros Island, where most of the Deuce family lives. Deuce doesn't know who his dad is, and Medusa doesn't like to talk about it either. It's implied that Deuce and his mom don't have the best relationship, especially when he says in "Grims Rule" that family isn't always easy.
Medusa's name in the Monster High books is changed to Maddy so she doesn't get too much attention.
Deuce spends every summer vacation in Greece with his mom and his aunts Stheno and Euryale. Deuce and Euryale often compete against Stheno in a cook-off, which is probably where Deuce got his love of cooking.
Friends[]
In "New Ghoul #School", Deuce seems to hang out with Heath Burns, and in his diary, he talks about how he and his brother, Clawd Wolf, are on the same "team". He's also got a buddy named Jackson Jekyll who he hangs out with during a pick-up basketball game. He's also friends with Opie from "Phantom Of The Opry" and one of the diaries in "School's Out".
Deuce is a friend of Heath Burns, but he'll put up with him so he doesn't get in the way of others. Deuce is also a friend of Manny Taur when they're both on the team. Deuce's best friends are Cleo (Cleo de Nile) and Jackson (Jackson Jekyll). They're usually found in the diary of the dolls in the doll logs. Deuce's profile bio is also in the diary copy of the dolls. Deuce's BFFs (best friends forever) are also found in the doll boxes.
Pet[]
Perseus the two-tailed rat is Deuce's pet, much to his mom's chagrin.
We know that Smokey was Deuce's pet dragon when he was a kid. Unfortunately, Deuce didn't know what he was doing, and he accidentally turned Smokey into stone. Smokey's supposed to turn back on the anniversary, but Deuce doesn't know what day it is.
Romance[]
Deuce is one of the most popular guys in school. He has a cool attitude, a good sense of humor, pretty face, and good social skills. All of these qualities make him a favorite of the girls in the school, but Deuce doesn’t seem to care. He is modest and modest in his romantic life. He fell in love with Cleo de Nile while she was going out with Clawd Wolf. He didn’t want to ask her out because she was still in a relationship with another guy. He spread the word about his interest to Cleo, who was in a relationship with Clawd because of peer pressure, respect and friendship, but no love. Cleo reciprocated Deuce’s interest, which was another incentive for Cleo to break up with Clawd.
Deuce started dating Cleo right after the split, and they've been together ever since. A lot of it has to do with Deuce being patient with Cleo's bossy attitude and Deuce's paranoia that she's trying to get rid of him for someone else. When asked what he liked about Cleo, he said, "She just makes me feel like I could be better Deuce, you know?
In “New Ghoul #School”, Deuce becomes Frankie Stein’s first love interest because he is kind to her and tries to help her out when Heath Burns won’t stop flirting with her. However, once she finds out that he’s already going out with Cleo, she stops thinking of him as a potential romantic interest. She even helps him get back together with Cleo after she accidentally makes Cleo think that Deuce is cheating on her.
In the movie, Deuce was suspicious of her, and when Draculaura didn't understand what she was seeing, she thought she was cheating on Deuce with Operette. After a pretty wild fight, Operette tries to take Deuce away from Cleo to get revenge. But then she finds out that Cleo was right about them being compatible, and she really likes him. But when she tries to do something about it, Deuce tells her he already has a girlfriend and he loves her a lot. She's really touched by this, but she's still worried about Cleo, so she lets her go and tells Deuce to write a song for her so he can tell her how much he loves her.
Rochelle Goyle wrote in her ‘Between Classes’ diary about how she met Deuce when they ran into each other in Monster High’s hallways. “Deuce was surprised when I told him he couldn’t turn a gargoyle into a rock,” Goyle wrote. “I was in love with his green eyes. I knew he had a girl, but I didn’t think she had a chance against me. I wanted to meet him as soon as possible. I even had Roux steal my basketball once to lure him to me.”
Deuce seems to have a soft spot for Abbey Bominable. He even takes his sunglasses off to get a better view of her when she shows up at Monster High on her first day. In the show, Frankie, Draculaura and, to a lesser extent, Cleo thought Deuce was hooking up with Abbey. But it turns out Deuce was actually meeting Abbey because she was helping him build his backyard ice rink so he could surprise Cleo with a romantic date.
Melody Carver in Monster High books kissed Deuce. He did it to spite Cleo after she kissed Jackson Jekyle out of spite toward Melody. Whether or not he actually felt anything about it is unknown.
Deuce’s male friends also come to her for help when they’re having trouble getting or maintaining a relationship. Gil Webber spoke to Deuce about Lagoona’s lies in “Hoo Doo You Like?” Clawd Wolf asked for Deuce’s help with Draculaura in “Hyde And Shriek” and in “Sweet 1600 Diary”
Abilities[]
He's got all the powers of a gorgon!
- Stone Stare: Deuce is a gorgon. Being a gorgon means Deuce can turn anyone into stone with his eyes. There are many benefits to this.
- Snakes For Hair: He's got a bunch of snakes on his head, so he needs to wear a hat to cover them up like he's in disguise as a person in Lisi Harrison's Monster High books.
Skillset[]
- Cooking: He's an excellent cook, probably because he has competitions with his aunt Euryale. He's one of the best cooks character at Monster High school. He even makes his own food, Greek Monster Fusion. It's his favorite food, but we don't know what it's made of since his doll profile and his website profile never mention it. Unlike his aunt, he doesn't have a lot of confidence in his cooking skills and seems to be ashamed to show them off in public. He's so good at his food that it's literally the only food that he'll eat without question.
- Athleticism: He is athletic, just like Clawd Wolf. In the Monster High series, he excels at basketball, but he excels at playing basketball in the books by Lisi Harrison. Because of this, he is co-captain alongside Clawd, whose skills (both) are equal.
