Cleo de Nile is a 2022-introduced and all-around character. She is an Egyptian Mummy who is the daughter of the mummy rulers and the second in line for the royal throne behind her older sister, Nefera. If she can't displace her sister, she'll settle for being the queen of the social scene and the ruler of EekTok[9]. She's the leader of the Mummy Dance Committee[10], a social media influencer who calls her fans "mummy wrappers"[11][12], and is a spooktacular party planner[5][1], a big fan of humans and self-proclaimed Queen of Monster High.
“I like to give my followers a range of emotions, so my audience thinks I’m more relatable!”
Cleo de Nile, Monster High Mysteries
Character[]
Personality[]
Cleo de Nile is a confident and determined mummy who knows she is destined for greatness. If only everyone else would just admit it and get out of her way. She’s self-centered, dramatic and maybe a bit spoiled and snobby. Despite these traits, Cleo has a big heart that shines through in moments of kindness and loyalty towards her friends and she never mocks or belittles anyone, believing that a true queen behaves with dignity and respect. She is brimming with lots of ideas (even if a lot of those ideas involve cursing her enemies with swarms of scarabs).
Cleo de Nile comes from one of the most renowned Egyptian dynasties, where her parents, Mummy and Baba de Nile reign over the mummy world. Despite being second in line for the throne, she often lives in the shadow of her older sister, Nefera, the future undead Queen and the golden child of the de Nile family. Although her family members are genuinely amazing, many monsters assume that everything Cleo does is solely due to her family, giving the impression that she takes a shortcut because of her de Nile heritage. Because of this, Cleo is determined to prove that she's independent and that she's capable of achieving things without relying on her family. Along her journey, she learns from Clawd, that there's no shame in letting someone who wants to help give you help, from those who genuinely offer it.
Cleo de Nile craves the spotlight and desires to be popular, driven by power and fame. Initially relying on her magical mummy curse power abilities to attract followers. However, Cleo eventually learned that popularity isn't everything. Instead, she prioritizes nurturing her bonds with her closest friends, Clawdeen, Frankie and Draculaura. Nevertheless, she remains steadfast in her pursuit of fame. Accepting the fact that she won't ever inherit the throne, Cleo de Nile decides she must carve out her own place in the world. She's certain that place is FAME, believing it to be her destiny in one form or another, whether it's as queen of the social scene or ruler of EekTok.
Instead of butterflies in her stomach, Cleo’s wrappings conceal a posse of scarabs. These scarabs are part minions, part buddies, part parasite. They do her bidding (with mediocre results), offer her companionship (with even worse results) and occasionally snack on her organs that she keeps in jars in her dorm room (with great results for them, bad results for Cleo).
Hidden beneath her wrappings, Cleo often feels overshadowed by her older sister, Nefera, who is next in line for the royal throne and the golden child. This contributes to Cleo's self-consciousness and inner struggle with self-doubt and insecurity. She yearns to showcase her true potential but fears rejection, doubting her worth in the eyes of others and even herself. The fear of abandonment further complicates her relationships, as she battles the feeling of not being taken seriously, despite her relentless efforts. Recently, the sisters have been working on improving their relationship.
Appearance[]
Cleo is a tall, curvaceous and shimmering brown-skinned teenage mummy, with her physical features are a nod to ancient Egyptian art - such as the ridge on her nose, her left eye resembling an Eye of Horus and the golden lip ring worn on her lower lip. She also has straight tailbone-length hair with bangs that are colored in three shades of blue; royal-blue, navy-blue and bright sky-blue, with thin golden streaks on them.
Her eyebrows are colored in a dark navy-blue (or black), and her eyes are pale-golden with noticeable specks of hazel and long thick eyelashes protruding from them. Her makeup consists of celeste-blue eyeshadow, maroon lip gloss and bright sky-blue nail polish on her finger and toenails.
Her outfits are based on mummies as well as Egyptian art and symbols. The colors of her outfit can be traced back to blue and gold, with accent colors of a reddish-pink and teal;
For her doll, web series, and music videos designs, Cleo wears tiara-like golden headband with an extravagant blue, coral-orange and white decoration on the left side, somewhat resembling feathers. She also wore golden dangle earrings and an extravagant, Egyptian-inspired golden necklace with several jewels and decorations, with the most distinctive one is that of a scarab-shaped blue pendant adorned on the front of her necklace. As for her outfit, she wears a blue dress with long sleeves resembling mummy wraps, followed by golden trim and the right part of her dress is adorned with a more elaborated pattern of Egyptian symbols. She wears an elaborated golden belt around her waist, with golden and blue chains and an Eye of Horus-shaped buckle. She also wears mummy wrap-like calf-high, high-heeled boots with golden stripes around the top and going down the boots, blue stripes on the back of the red toes and solid golden soles and heels.
In the animated TV series and initial artwork, Cleo instead wears an extravagant, Egyptian-inspired golden necklace which are decorated with sapphires. Her outfit consists of a sleeveless, bright sky-blue off-the-shoulder ruffle capri jumpsuit with small golden decorations on the ruffles, along with a pattern of Egyptian symbols printed on the top of her jumpsuit. She has golden mummy wraps around her arms and legs with different accessories; the wraps on her arms are paired with two different sets of golden bracelets; a bracelet with a pendant on her left arm, resembling the Egyptian god, Seth, and an arm bracelet with a scarab-shaped pendant on her right arm. Meanwhile, the wraps on her legs are paired with a golden belt, easily mistaken for the real wraps. Cleo also wears mummy-wrapped golden wedge sandals with an Egyptian-like pattern carved on the soles.
Her accessories include the same headband and dangle earrings as before.
Abilities[]
Being daughter of a great mummy ruler, Cleo's abilities are:
- Immortality: Like most undeads, she is immortal, meaning she can’t get physically hurt. But Cleo stores her organs in jars; being far away from her organs can cause problems.
- Mummy Curse Powers: Mummies can do curses by summoning the powers of ancient Egyptian gods.
- Sonic Scream: "Mummy in the Mirror" shows that Cleo learned a curse from her grandmummy that allows her to unleash a powerful scream, one capable of shattering mirrors and/or destroy objects.
- Organs: Cleo keeps her organs in jars that she must be close with at all times in order to maintain her body. For example, if she's too far away from her heart, she passes out.
- Strength: Despite being centuries old, Cleo’s strength is enough to outweigh a human’s own strength, individually speaking.
- Mummy Wraps Extension: Cleo can extend her mummy wraps; she uses this ability to hang from high places, for example.
- Voice Enhancement: In "Case of the Moondays", it appears that Cleo can enhance her voice.
Relationships[]
Family[]
Cleo has an older sister named Nefera, who she doesn't seem to like much. As shown in "Case of the Moondays", Cleo hopes Nefera will get out of the line for queen, and in "Paw-zzle Pieces", seeing how Clawdeen and her brother, Clawd, have similar names (Clawd and Clawdeen), Cleo says she is relieved her parents didn't name her and Nefera the same way, making everyone give annoyed glares at her.
In "Pyramid Scheme", it's revealed that Cleo's dislike over Nefera is because of jealousy, because Nefera always got the lead role in school plays, while Cleo always had background roles. Despite this, Nefera always treated her little sister kindly. But Cleo actually cares for her sister; for example, when Nefera was about to fall into lava, Cleo gave up on getting the Heart of Cleopatra to save her sister and she gave up her own heart to stop the place from collapsing. After being thanked by Nefera, Cleo, at first annoyed but then kindly, hugged Nefera. They returned to Monster High after Frankie created a heart of stone to replace Cleo's heart so she can take it back and, after this, their sisterly relationship became better.
Cleo's parents are Mummy and Baba de Nile. They can often be neglectful of Cleo, as they favour Nefera for her successes and being heir to the throne. They also find Nefera more humorous than Cleo, partly because of the memes she shares on the family group chat.[12] In "What's Up Watzie?", it's revealed that Cleo always gets jewelry from her parents at her birthday, but wishes they looked at her Amazombie wishlist. She always wanted a new harp, which has always been on there for the last 500 years. In "Pet Problems", it's shown that Cleo has a good relationship with her parents, although they still favour Nefera. Mummy and Baba allowed Cleo to have a Hissette as a pet.

- Draculaura (BFF)
- Lagoona Blue

Pets[]
Cleo conceals a posse of scarabs in her wrappings, who act as her minions. They do her bidding (with mediocre results) and sometimes even offer her companionship.
- To Cleo, bugs that obey your command aren't necessarily pets.
- Even though they're not Cleo's pets, Cleo still takes very good care of them, and treats them as if they were her own children and has even given them names, such as Ringo[12].
Hissette is Cleo's pet cobra. After seeing Draculaura's, Clawdeen's and Frankie's adorable pets, Cleo wanted her own pet so she asked her Mummy and Baba if she could get her own. After some begging, Cleo would get herself a pet from the shelter. Hissette and Cleo are practically twins; they share the same love in shiny jewels and bling.
Upon first receiving Hissette, Cleo needed to prove to her parents that she can take care of her. At first, Hissette doesn’t want to listen, so Cleo had to train her by listening to both Deuce and Frankie's advice. Frankie suggested to figure out what she likes best and Deuce tried to see if she likes his baked goods, but failed.
Tut is Cleo's pet jackel, who is based off the Egyptian god, Anubis, and was the first pet to be released alongside Cleo. Not much is known about Tut as he hasn't made an apperance in the animated series so far.
Romance[]

Prior to the beginning of the series, Cleo and Deuce had briefly been in a romantic relationship together. However, they ultimately decided that they were better off as friends, and their romance ended amicably.[12]
By current day, Cleo and Frankie show mutual romantic interest in each other.[13]
